Lead yourself into the future day

In week 3 we had the Lead Yourself into the Future Day. What we did was build a tower out of newspaper, build a tower out of cups without our hands. At the end we had icy poles. We also did a conga thing where someone falls over but you have to stay up which was fun.

During the activities, we focused on the idea of leadership. As an individual, I learnt how to be independent and take on a challenge and put myself out there when somebody needed guidance. As a member of a team I learnt to help other with the activities and to work together as a team to achieve the best result. I did this by communicating with the other members and watching how everyone uses their skills differently.

I mostly focused on helping the people who were struggling.

For example, there was someone having trouble while building the cup tower with placing a cup as we couldn’t use our hands, so what I did was i went over to help because two heads is more effective than one.

I was a very fun day.

Snot chocolate

Snot chocolate

Author – Morris Gleitzman

Genre- humour, fiction

A collection of funny, short stories involving a medieval peasant suddenly making king, a lawyer’s daughter trying to help her mother, an overly enthusiastic bacterial wiper, a sibling helping to deal with a troll, a diary-writing dog, a girl giving away hot chips and a boy who meets his demolition fairy.

Although, my favourite was the title story, snot chocolate which was about a kid that struggled to save her mother’s career and reputation as she suffered from chronic unconscious nose-picking. I liked it a lot because It was very funny, unique and interesting.

New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve Celebration

In the Summer holidays I go to my beach house in Sorrento. We go to the beach in Sorrento and play with our cousins.

We celebrate New Year’s Eve like this.

  • We decorate the beach house
  • We set the table
  • We invite our cousins
  • We have fun with our cousins
  • In the evening we have dinner
  • We count down the seconds to the New Year

Camp Toonallook

In term 4, I went to camp Toonallook. It was great there.Tom was our outdoor ed teacher , he was friendly.

I liked kayaking with Charlotte who is a year 11 student . I did enjoy some of the food. My favourite was hash browns and the blueberry muffins.

I liked the speed boat because it was very fast. The police boat was huge , it was big enough to have bunks inside. It also had a radar.

If you’ve been on camp what did you do there ?

My avatar

Today in class I created an avatar. I chose smooth black hair because that’s what colour my hair is. I also choose brown coloured eyes because that’s what I look like. I chose this background because it was my favourite one.

Hard road ahead

In 1851, gold was discovered in Australia, which began something called the gold rush. Because of the gold rush people came from across the seas from China, Ireland, Italy and America to find that gold. Some of them failed to find gold, others found gold straight away.

But while the men were looking for the gold the police department made a new law that now you had to have a license to find gold. Which was not a good thing. There was chaos, which meant most of the people stopped looking for the gold, some people even left the gold fields because there was chaos.

But one night in 1854, there was a poster that said “come to Bakery Hill”. This is what it looked like. Have a look…

On bakery hill there was a crowd of people yelling. People also burned their licenses. One guy stood up on a rock and shouted “liberty”. Then they raised a flag with a symbol called… the Eureka Stockade.

Now, we’re done on the history part. Let’s get on to the diorama part. So I had a partner named Millie, she was a nice partner. We and the class built a diorama of Sovereign Hill, which is where the goldfields were. Millie and I built the United States Hotel. It took us a long time to build it. But we finished it. I used my imagination to help Millie design the hotel. I used my knowledge and researched what the hotel looked like. I showed courage in using new ideas and strategies. This is what it looks like…

Sovereign Hill

Year 5 went to Sovereign Hill last week for school camp. A few things I learned there that I did not know before are:

  • Kids used to finish school at the age of 12.
  • Kids got married at the age of 16.
  • Men had to protect their wives.
  • Girls used to have to learn to sew at school.

The fact that people used to live in tents made me sad. I also felt homesick during the program however, I used my Positive Learner Attribute of resilience to make it through.

My favourite part of camp was the sound and light show because there was a 3D movie about the birth of the universe which was very interesting.
